So "The Big 3" have made it. Whether you love them or hate them, they are fighting for the national championship. It's a rematch of the 2006 NBA Finals, which crowned the Heat as champions in a 4-2 series. Things are a little different now, as Eric Spoelstra is standing in the spot that the legendary Pat Riley filled in 2006. Rick Carlisle is the head coach of the Mavs, and the Avery Johnson experiment is over. Will the outcome be the same? I'll say yes... just about.
With that said, if I'm right, it could the sign of the apocalypse for the NBA. There in no salary cap in the NBA. So if Wade, Lebron and Bosh are champions at the end of the series, they are setting precedent. A very scary one as a matter of fact. The message is this: this whole "super team" thing, it works. It actually works.
Guys like Dwight Howard and Chris Paul will learn from this, and could try and make super teams of their own. As a matter of fact, the NBA could turn into a circus of athletes trying to make unbeatable teams. Players won't try to carry teams anymore like Iverson did with the 76ers. To me, this new era is the equivalent of steroids and the MLB. Teams will be inflated with superstars, and there will be no balance in the league. No balance, no fairness, no fun as spectators of the sport.
For the sake of the NBA's future, I hope I am wrong with my prediction. The league is already in trouble with a possible lockout. I hope Dirk can bury the heat and Kidd gets a championship. Let's call the Mavs, "the good guys."
Prediction: Miami wins series, 4-2
